Our 'Artist in Residence' is contemporary artist Lubna Speitan. Lubna launches a striking monochrome ‘nightscape’ series of paintings capturing the reflective moods and tones of London at night.
Born in London, Lubna Speitan developed as an artist following a BA Hons in Graphic Design during which she produced works of ethical, environmental and social considerations.
A dynamic personality with a diverse range of interests from poetry, music, art & design to psychology, philosophy, anthropology, creative writing and a broad spectrum of reading subjects. Lubna’s philosophy and mind-set are reflected in her art collection.
Positively embracing periods of insomnia by observing spaces/ structures at night, and how the light at this time affects it’s surroundings, Lubna went on to develop a series of monochrome 'nightscape' paintings and drawings. Capturing the ephemeral and surreal qualities of London at night, this series transports and welcomes the observer to invoke the imagination to fill the indistinct voids.
A carefully blended range of colours are used to create a dark and sombre background. Variants of greys and whites are then utilised to emphasise the subject matter, creating a contemporary impression of the setting.
Lubna combines both oils and acrylics to enhance the matt, calm, soft and reflective tones of her subtle oil & acrylic ‘Nightscape’ paintings
